The department of Pharmacology is located in the second floor of Academic Building. It is well established innovative and dedicated to educating students. Emphasis is given to research.
There is a separate section for “Pharmacovigilance Centre” which deals different projects concerned with adverse drug reactions and clinical auditing. Experiments on laboratory animals and also in isolated organs are being demonstrated to the students. In this direction a well-planned and well equipped Animal-House has been established as per the guidelines of CPCSEA.

Forensic Medicine trains the Medical students in application of the knowledge and
dispensation of Justice. Medical students are educated and trained to ensure the legal and ethical
standards in the practice of medicine in the community. They are also equipped with handling all
medico- legal cases, procedures and certifications with a clear understanding of their duties and
responsibilities.
Students are exposed to Clinical Forensic Medicine in developing their competencies to
collect, detect, analyze and arrive at an opinion regarding age, sex and nature of injuries, other
than the procedures of post-mortem examination.

Dr.Shrikanthan. MD (Forensic Medicine) completed his post-graduation from Madras Medical
College in the year 2003 and continues to be a teacher for more than two decades. He has been
working as a professor and head of the department for more than a decade.
He has an inclination for medical education technologies and has completed the following
courses accredited by NMC.
Apart from conducting Forensic Departmental programs and workshops for faculties and students, he has served as a faculty and coordinator in Medical Education Unit and conducted various Medical Education Technologies (MET) program.
As way to connect to medical student’s community, he has founded a ad free & non-profit You-Tube channel “Mediocolegal Interpretations” in 2014 which is which has more than 2.4K subscribers and more than 1,60K views.
He has given multiple talks on AIR Pondicherry for creating awareness among public, related to poisons and postmortem examination.
Apart from this he has also served as an Assistant Dean in the previous institution.

Infrastructure
The department comprises of a well-designed museum embellished with exhibits in the form of wet specimens, models of weapons, autopsy instruments, toxicological specimens and photos. The charts and photographs related to Forensic pathology and Medical jurisprudence are displayed. There is also a teaching facility in the museum, for accommodating 75 students, furnished with smart board and appropriate AV aids.
The department of Community Medicine is committed towards improving quality of Teaching and Training in the practice of medicine holistically encompassing promotive, preventive , curative and rehabilitative aspects of disease. It is not limited within the four walls of class rooms, but, extended as a community based training through Urban Training Centre and Rural Training Centre. Students are posted here in batches for family visits and to participate in socio clinical case presentation. Faculty members and specialists from Obstetric & Gynaecology, Pediatric, General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and ENT departments are also involved in the community based teaching and training programme. The department is also coordinating other activities included in the National Programmes.
Community Medicine is the art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through the organized efforts of society. The goal of public health and preventive medicine is the biological, physical, mental and social well-being of all members of the community irrespective of their socioeconomic background.
The main focus of the faculty of Community Medicine is to create an “Indian Medical Graduate” possessing requisite knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and responsiveness, so that she or he may function appropriately and effectively as a physician of first contact of the community. With the emergence of the new competency based medical education curriculum, the expected roles of the Indian medical graduate projects on the roles of physician as a clinician, leader of a heath care team, lifelong learner, communicator and a great professional. In order to reach these goals and the roles among Indian medical graduates, our department has planned to train them from the beginning of the professional years with Family Adoption Program, community oriented medical education curriculum, modern innovative teaching learning methods like panel discussions, Tag along sessions, community health activities, focus group discussions, problem based learning, concept mapping techniques, reflection writing and community health projects. Further, the new elements in the curriculum like Attitude, Ethics and Communication modules, Early Clinical Exposure with the community utilising the Family adoption programme and the Community research projects in liaison with the Government and Nongovernmental organisations will be implemented.
